Anemia
Iron Deficiency Anemia:
Low iron levels in one’s body are the cause of iron deficiency anemia. Low iron levels make the production of hemoglobin in the body slower. Hemoglobin is necessary for carrying oxygen through the body and it is found in red blood cells. Therefore, if the amount of hemoglobin in the red blood cells is low, then the body does not have enough oxygen, and this leads to the development of anemia. Low iron levels in the body may generate out of many disordered conditions inside the body. Women who have heavy menstrual bleedings are subjects to anemia. Large amounts of blood loss are generally a very common cause of anemia.
The most important way in which we can increase our body’s iron levels is through nutrition. Iron rich foods are very important and should be an essential part of one’s menu. It is also very important to take care of what you consume during pregnancy. Women in this sensitive condition can easily develop anemia and that could produce serious complications during pregnancy. In some cases, iron deficiency anemia can be developed because of another state of illness, which prevents iron absorption.
Iron Deficiency Anemia Symptoms:
The symptoms of iron deficiency anemia may not be easy to notice, but through time, they become more obvious. These symptoms usually include dizziness, frequent fatigue, breathing difficulties, weak nails and frequent headaches. One should be extra careful when it comes to children, especially the really young ones because they may not be aware of their condition, which makes it more difficult for anemia to be discovered. Usually, the symptoms in such cases include children being irritable, they can’t stay concentrated for long and their growth is sometimes slowed down. One would think that these symptoms and iron deficiency anemia are easily treatable, but it should be stated that this condition is best treated with the supervision of a doctor, especially because there might be an underlying condition which caused it. Iron deficiency anemia can be treated through iron supplements, prescribed by the doctor. Read the rest of this entry »
Migraine Remedies Through the Ages
From Creative to Bizarre
With all the uncertainty in the scientific understanding of migraines, it is easy to forget that we have come a long, long way. Migraines have long been poorly understood and even more poorly treated over time. The various treatment methods used through history have ranged from deadly dangerous to modern and then back to dangerous. Reviewing these therapies and marveling at the reality of their actual use on patients makes modern alternative therapies like acupuncture seem a little less alternative.
What is probably the first recorded migraine treatment was taken from cave paintings made around 9000 BCE. These paintings showed the process of trepanation, which is the drilling of holes into the skull. The belief may have been that this released evil demons and spirits that may have been causing the pain. Not surprisingly, this treatment seems to have fallen out of favor for many thousands of years, only to be revived in the 1600s in a slightly more scientific form.
The ancient Egyptians of 1200 BCE wrote about migraines in the Ebers Papyrus, an ancient medical scroll. This scroll detailed the treatment of migraines through the use of a clay crocodile and some linen strips. The names of the favorable gods was written on the linen strips, grain was placed in the clay crocodile, and it was then bound to the head with the linen strips. Similarly, in 900 CE, Ali bin Isa reported that binding a dead mole to the head worked, presumably using a similar mechanism. Read the rest of this entry »
What are Dentures?

Dentures
Dentures are removable replacements for teeth that are missing. There are two kinds of dentures available, partial and complete sets. The first is a set of dentures used when a person still has some of their original teeth remaining. A complete set of dentures is used when there are none. For anyone who has several missing teeth or teeth that are not in good health, dentures are a great choice for gaining a better-looking smile without having too much work carried out.
Partial Dentures
A partial denture or bridge set will typically consist of substitute teeth that are connected to a base that is pink or the colour of the gums and attached by a metal framework, which will hold the dentures in place inside of the mouth. Dentures can be permanent or removable depending on your preference, but sometimes depending on your needs. A permanent bridge will replace one or several teeth by placing a crown on the teeth that are on the sides of the place where the artificial teeth are going to be. The bridge will then be permanently attached using cement like mixture that is safe in the mouth. Another choice is a precision partial denture which is removed at night. Know About SPL Hair removal treatment
The Square Pulsed Light (SPL) method is a hair removing devices similar to IPL or Intense Pulsed Light that provides a quick, safe, affordable way to remove embarrassing and unwanted hair.
It is similar to IPL in that the procedure is performed by using a laser applied directly to your skin to target short pulses of light at sections of hair follicles. The applied pulses of light are attracted to the melanin in the hair follicle, which heats up the hair shaft and causes damage to the cells in the hair follicle. This process causes the hair to fall out and makes it harder for hair to grow back quickly.
SPL differs slightly from IPL, but only in the application where the targeted light is applied slightly longer to the targeted area, with reduced light wavelength intensity. The reduced light wavelength intensity is beneficial in that the targeted treatment area does not overheat, resulting in less damage to the surrounding tissue.
There is some planning involved prior to your first SPL treatment. The treatment requires that you do not expose yourself to the sun before or just after getting a treatment because of the way that the light interacts with the melanin. During the course of the delivery of the treatment ultraviolet light and infrared wavelengths are filtered out making SPL a safe step toward permanent hair reduction. Read the rest of this entry »
The different types of incontinence pads
Old age brings in a lot of health problems and some of them can be really embarrassing. One of the common problems faced in old age is urinary incontinence. Urinary incontinence is involuntary leakage of urine and is highly distressing. There are several reasons responsible for urinary incontinence; it can happen due to the weakening of pelvic muscles, urinary tract infection, and an overactive bladder, just to name a few. Some people suffer from urinary incontinence since birth due to nerve damage. Now, the main question is how to deal with urinary incontinence to avoid embarrassment in the presence of friends, relatives or colleagues.
You can undergo medications but it is obvious that medications cannot be effective overnight. Therefore, it is essential to back-up your medication with incontinence pads. It is essential that you choose the right type of incontinence pad which best suits your needs, especially considering the numerous types of incontinence pads available in the market.

The mini pad has a low absorbent power of 200 ml and is useful if you face a urinary leakage problem on a low level. Read the rest of this entry »
Saturated Fats: More Sinned Against than Sinning?
The United States Department of Agriculture defines a healthy diet as low in saturated fats, with lots of fruits, vegetables and whole grains. Meat and poultry should be lean, milk and dairy products low-fat or fat free. The USDA also recommends you limit cholesterol. However, there is another school of thought. The Weston A. Price Foundation was established to carry on the work of dentist Weston A. Price, who spent a number of years in the early part of the 20th century doing field research on the connection between diet and health, especially dental health. What Price found was that as primitive cultures turned away from their traditional foods to the more “modern” type of diet common in America, dental decay and orthodontic problems became more prevalent, as did chronic diseases such as diabetes and heart disease. Even in America, heart disease was uncommon at the time Price conducted his research. The WAPF has continued to review, conduct and support dietary research on these issues, and has a number of recommendations that are directly contrary to the USDA guidelines, particularly in regard to dietary fats and cholesterol. Prostatomegaly – Prostate Enlargement
Prostatomegaly is a condition described as prostate gland enlargement. Such a condition is common in men above the age of 60. Also, prostatomegaly is not a medical emergency until severe symptoms present of kidney damage associated with it. The cause for enlargement of the prostate gland is not clearly understood, but it is linked with decrease in the sexual activity.
Another reason for the disease to cause can be variation in the testosterone and estrogen hormones in men, with aging. Prostatomegaly can be rectified with medicines or surgical intervention depending upon the severity of this condition and intensity of its symptoms.
Prostate Gland Enlargement Causes
There is no cause understood for prostate enlargement. Prostatomegaly cannot be termed as a medical illness but just a medical condition. Enlargement of the prostate gland may be caused due to hormonal changes or due to lump formation in the glands. Aging is considered as a major risk factor for this disorder. According to the statistical reports, almost 20% of elderly men over the age of 60 years develop this problem in the benign stage. Read the rest of this entry »

Teeth in a Day – Replacement Teeth in one Appointment
Conventional dental implants require a 3 to 6 month healing period before the teeth can be fixed to the implants. This procedure involves a 2 stage placement, which necessitates at least two dental clinic appointments. Immediately loaded dental implants are a significant improvement on traditional implants; the entire procedure of inserting the implants as well as the crowns can be completed in the same day.
‘Teeth in a Day’ Procedure – Increasingly Popular Technique
Immediate loaded dental implants are becoming increasingly popular on account of the quickness and simple nature of the procedure. However, this type of implant can be provided only to patients who have adequate jawbone for placing the implant. In addition, the tooth extracted should have a simple root structure and should have been extracted without any complication.
The dental surgeon would check the implant site and condition of the bone with the help of X-Rays or CT scans. If the implant site is found suitable enough, the dentist would place the implant; attach the abutment and a temporary crown – all in one sitting. After a healing period of 3 to 6 months the patient returns to the clinic and a permanent crown – sometimes referred to as a tooth implant – is fitted. Read the rest of this entry »
