Doctors are now recommending cool baths and more old-fashioned techniques for fever reduction when your child has the flu. We probably should have stuck with those in the first place.
There have been many deaths in Mexico linked to a combination of the flu and fever reducers because patients have not been informed of the deadly effects. Japan put a stop to the use of NSAID’s (ex. Tylenol, Advil, Motrin, etc.) for reducing fever for children with the flu in 2000 and the fatality rates for children with the flu declined. Many people with flu related deaths between 1918 and 1919 in the U.S. were found to have complications beyond pneumonia at the time of death that were attributed to taking aspirin. Just before the high rates of death occurred, the Surgeon General and other health organizations recommended aspirin to the public. According to The British Medical Journal, antipyretics (pain relievers and fever reducers) are the cause for many flu related deaths and people should not take any of these should they get H1N1.
The H1N1 pandemic has been haunting us since last year and you would think that I would not have to dig for this type of information to find it. The deadly combination of flu and fever reducers should have been public knowledge well before this pandemic even began. If you want to give as much as $100 billion dollars of taxpayer money to GM and Chrysler just so they can go BANKRUPT anyway…just so you can hand the company to the unions that bankrupted them in first place…and keep hundreds of thousands of grossly overpaid union workers employed…all because those unions contributed millions of dollars to your campaign…YOU MAY BE A SOCIALIST. If you believe it’s greedy for American taxpayers to want to keep more of their OWN money…but it’s not greedy to demand that government confiscate other people’s money and redistribute to you…even though you didn’t earn it…YOU MAY BE A SOCIALIST. If you call it a “tax cut” when you give a welfare check to people that never paid taxes in the first place…YOU MAY BE A SOCIALIST. If you propose the biggest income tax increase in history on “the rich”…AND propose taking away deductions from “the rich” including charitable and mortgage deductions (that could wipe out the entire charitable and housing industries)…and also raise the capital gains taxes on “the rich”…and also take the cap off FICA taxes on “the rich”…and also bring back the death tax on “the rich”…and also propose adding universal health care surcharges on “the rich”…and possibly tax the health benefits of “the rich”… and also hit everyone in America with Cap & Trade taxes, but particularly “the rich” who own businesses and bigger homes and bigger cars…and you want to add a deadly new VAT tax on top of income taxes…and add sugar taxes…and CELL phone taxes…and let’s not forget you want to add a new Botox tax on breast jobs, liposuction and nose jobs…all while taxpayers are being hit with higher state income taxes, higher state sales taxes and higher property taxes… all in the middle of a depression…and you think those tax increases are “reasonable and fair”…YOU ARE DEFINETLY A SOCIALIST. AND YOU ARE CERTAINLY A MORON WHO SHOULD NEVER BE ALLOWED NEAR ANY GOVERNMENT POSITION THAT INVOLVES THE CREATION OF JOBS. If you like the results of the Michigan economy run by unions (the first state to hit 15% unemployment and the first city Detroit to auction homes off for $100 and find no takers)…or WORSE the California economy…a state that has spent itself into oblivion, insolvency and bankruptcy…and you want to turn the whole of America into one big Michigan…or one big California…YOU MAY BE A SOCIALIST. If you think everyone should have a government job…and should belong to a government employees union…and get paid obscene salaries 70% higher than the private sector…and receive bloated pensions for life…and receive free health care for life…and a guaranteed job for life…and “merit pay” increases to keep them from leaving their government jobs…even though many of them are working at a government job precisely because no one in the private sector would ever even think of hiring them…and you think they should get all of these benefits for the right to sit at a desk for 25 years looking at their watch waiting for retirement at age 50…so they can collect a fat pension for the next 40 years without working…and then we have to hire a new government employee to replace them…and you want to pay for all that on the taxpayer’s dime…YOU MAY BE A SOCIALIST. If you think that government must limit the salaries of CEO’s in the private sector…but don’t mind paying 7 million federal government employees compensation that is 70% higher than comparable jobs in the private sector…and giving almost 20% of them over $100,000 per year (before counting overtime, bonuses and pensions)…YOU MAY BE A SOCIALIST.

If you think school choice and charter schools and vouchers are bad…even though they have helped countless minority children trapped in failing hellholes called public schools…if you think public schools should have no competition…if you think rewarding good teachers with higher pay and firing bad teachers is a bad idea…if you think people have no right to decide where to use their own property tax money…to choose the best education possible for their children…YOU MAY BE A SOCIALIST. If you think it’s perfectly fine to appoint a Supreme Court justice for life, who thinks that a Latina woman can make better decisions from the bench than a white male simply because of the color of her skin…YOU MAY BE A SOCIALIST. How can I tell if I have an STD?

You may have an STD if you experience burning or pain when urinating; sores, bumps, or blisters near the genitals or mouth; swelling around the genitals; fever, chills, night sweats, or swollen glands; or tiredness, vomiting, diarrhea, or sore muscles. In addition, you may have an unusual discharge or smell from the vagina; burning and itching around the vagina; pain in the lower abdomen; vaginal pain during sex; or vaginal bleeding between periods. Remember this; you may not have any warning signs at all. Regular medical checkups are essential to your health. If you have sex with more than one partner, routine cultures and blood tests may be needed.And get tested.

What should I do if I have an STD?

Get help right away. If you don’t, you may pass the STD to your partner or, if you’re pregnant, to your baby. In fact, without treatment an STD may make it impossible for you to have a baby at all. You may also develop brain damage, blindness, cancer, heart disease, or arthritis. In some cases you can even die. So go to a doctor or clinic right away.

If your health care provider determines that you do have an STD, tell your partner or partners to get tested, too. Take all of your medication; don’t stop just because all your symptoms go away. Do not have sex until you have received full treatment. The disease could still be present in your body. Finally, keep all your appointments, and always use a condom and spermicide when you have sex.

There are many different kinds of STDs, and some of them have similar symptoms. You should never attempt to make a diagnosis on your own. The nurse can give you a list with general descriptions of a few of the most common sexually transmitted diseases.

Always remember, the more sexual partners you have, the greater your risk. The best way to lower your risk is by not having sex or by having sex with one mutually faithful, uninfected partner, or by using a latex condom and spermicide with nonoxynol 9 during sex. Some STDs may be avoided by placing spermicide in the vagina before having sex, because it kills sperm and some STD germs. It helps to urinate and wash after sex (but do not douche, because douching may actually force germs higher up into the body). Avoid having sex with someone who uses intravenous drugs or engages in anal sex. Don’t engage in oral, anal, or vaginal sex with an infected person. If you think you may be at risk for AIDS or an STD, seek medical help immediately. Use a new condom each time you have sexual intercourse.

The world of politics is never supposed to make any real sense. After all, once you pit people’s cherished beliefs against each other, passions are roused and the arguments soon become bitter. It would be better if everyone was just allowed to do what they wanted. But, when it comes to organising medical care for the population, it takes a government to put the right kind of infrastructure in place. People have to be trained as care givers. This takes years and costs a small fortune. Hospitals and clinics have to be built. And then we come to all the support staff who drive the ambulances, keep the places clean and keep the accounts. Ah, yes, the money. All of this work over years has to be paid for. So the $64,000 question is who should foot the bill? It’s at this point that emotions get in the way of common sense. Talk to one side of the argument and they will tell you people who want access to medical care should carry private insurance. Talk to the other side and they will tell you the state should pay for the service out of the tax revenue. It’s never really clear why people disagree. Only people who are in work pay tax. Only people who earn can afford to pay the premiums on insurance. It’s the same money. The only difference is the way it’s collected – one as tax and the other as premiums paid to an insurance company.

But wait! There is a difference! If the state collects in the money, it can use it more efficiently because, unlike the insurance industry, it does not intend to make a profit. So the only reason to support the current system is to allow the insurance industry to continue making an ever larger profit. As the Senate is currently set up, forty-one senators can stop any reform. That’s forty Republicans plus one other. Yet when you look at the number of people these Republican senators represent, it’s only 36% of the US population. This is somewhat unfair. The party with the majority of representatives was voted in by 64% of the population. The Democratic platform could not have been more clear. It was to be reform of health care provision. Yet when you look at the media (which is controlled by big business), all you see reported is the opposition to reform. The “tea party” movement captures all the headlines.

But in all this, there is one really big irony that gets very little coverage. The Republican senators may only represent 36% of the population, but they represent nearly 50% of the children without any health insurance and 42% of the adult population with no insurance. Despite the fact that half the uninsured children in the US are represented by the Republicans, their opposition to any reform that would give the children coverage could not be more aggressive. If we assume the outcome of the reform would be cheap health insurance for almost all US citizens, the Republicans are against it. Their policy is to keep the profits rolling in for the health insurance industry and, if the majority of the people who live in their states have no insurance, that’s just their bad luck. The US is genuinely a strange place. Despite the recession, it’s one of the richest countries in the world yet it has a political party determined to prevent its citizens from enjoying cheap health insurance. Sadly this party with the minority of votes in the Senate could get their way.
