Osteoporosis is a disease in which bones become fragile and more likely to break. Osteoporosis often was thought to be conditions of frail elderly women develop. Osteoporosis leads to literally abnormally porous bone that is more compressible like a sponge, that dense as a brick. This disorder of the skeleton weakens the bone leading to an increased risk of breaking bones (fractures). A broken bone can really affect a woman’s life. It can cause disability, pain or loss of independence. It may make it more difficult to do daily activities without assistance, such as walking. If you have osteoporosis, you have an increased risk of bone fractures (broken bones), especially in the hip, spine and wrist. In most cases, bones weaken when you have low levels of calcium, phosphorus and other minerals in the bones. The process of remodeling of bone resumption to matrix synthesis to mineralization normally takes about 8 months – a slow but steady. The disease is “silent” because there are no symptoms when you have osteoporosis, and conditions may come to attention only after breaking a bone. Osteoporosis can also accompany endocrine disorders or result from excessive use of drugs such as steroids.

Osteoporosis can cause a person to stoop forward and appear to have a bump on his spine. The most serious and debilitating osteoporotic fracture is the hip fracture. The goal of treatment for osteoporosis is prevention of fractures in the first place. People with osteoporosis most often break bones in the hip, spine and wrist. Most patients with hip fracture who previously lived independently will require help from your family or home care. In the United States, about 10 million people have osteoporosis. Another 18 million people have low bone mass that places them at increased risk of developing osteoporosis. Any bone can be affected, but of special concern are fractures of the hip and spine. One in two women and four men in an age over 50 will break a bone in his life due to osteoporosis. A hip fracture almost always requires hospitalization and major surgery. Normal bone is composed of protein, collagen, and calcium. Bones that are affected by osteoporosis can fracture with only a minor fall or injury that normally would not cause a bone fracture.

Mumps is a disease, usually of children, caused by a virus. With mumps, your salivary glands swell. Specifically, these are the parotid glands, and they are located below and in front of each ear. The virus is spread by direct contact with an infected person’s sneeze or cough.

Humans are the only known natural hosts.

Mumps in adolescent males may result in the development of orchitis, a painful inflammation of the testicles that can, in rare cases, result in sterility.

Before the advent of vaccination, whenever a child in the neighbourhood caught mumps mothers used to take their young sons

around to the patient’s home in the hope that the child would catchmumps.Mumps is a virus and thus will cannot be treated with antibiotics.Like most viral illnesses, mumps can be left to run its course andmost children and adults recover in 2-3 weeks as long as there are nocomplications.

Mumps is most common around the month of March. It usually appears in scattered individual cases, though there are occasional local epidemics among unvaccinated children. It’s less infectious than chickenpox or measles.

Causes Of Mumps

The mumps are caused by a paramyxovirus, which is spread from person to person by saliva droplets or direct contact with articles that have been contaminated with infected saliva.

The parotid glands (the salivary glands between the ear and the jaw)are usually involved. Children between the ages of 2 and 12 are most commonly infected, but the infection can occur in other age groups.

In older people, other organs may become involved including the testes, the central nervous system, the pancreas, the prostate, the breasts, and other organs. The incubation period is usually 12 to 24days.

The virus that causes mumps is harbored in the saliva and is spread by sneezing, coughing, and other direct contact with another person’s infected saliva.

Once the person is exposed to the virus, symptoms generally occur in 14-24 days. Initial symptoms include chills, headache, loss of appetite, and a lack of energy.

In children, the first sign of mumps is swelling of the salivary glands, but adults sometimes run a temperature and feel ill a couple of days before the glands enlarge.

At first, the swelling is often uncomfortable or painful. If the disease occurs after puberty, the testicles may become swollen and painful in males; a similar condition may affect the female ovaries, sometimes leading to sterility.

Treatments

There is no specific treatment for mumps. Ice or heat packs applied to the neck area and with acetaminophen (Tylenol) may help relieve pain. Do not give aspirin to children with a viral illness because of the risk of Reye’s syndrome.Warm salt water gargles, soft foods, and extra fluids may also help relieve symptoms.

Around twenty per cent of infected people will be affected so slightly that they will not even realise they have mumps. Mumps is a virus and thus will cannot be treated with antibiotics. Like most viral illnesses, mumps can be left to run its course and most children and adults recover in 2-3 weeks as long as there are no complications.

Treat the symptoms with paracetamol or ibuprofen. DO NOT USE ASPIRIN. Unless instructed by a doctor, don’t give aspirin to a child who has a viral illness as the use of aspirin in such cases can lead to the development of Reye Syndrome, a serious and potentially deadlyencephalitis-like illness.

Give plenty of fluids but avoid acidic fruit juices (lemonade, orange juice etc) as these can increase parotid pain. A child with mumps doesn’t need to stay in bed but should not go to school while still infectious. A doctor can advise when it is safe to return.

Hence Vajikarana Therapy is recommended in ayurveda for men who are above 20 and below 70 to maintain optimum sexual activity and number of healthy sperms. Vajikarana Therapy recommends herbal preparations which are aphrodisiac.

People living with mild to moderate aplastic anemia are in serious condition but do not have to be hospitalized for treatment. With extremely low counts of all types of blood cells, the disease is considered severe and life-threatening that hospitalization for treatment is immediately required.
Anemia is caused due to iron deficiency, which in turn can affect learning and development. Although anemia is more common in girls, boys too can develop it. Usually anemia occurs during adolescence when the teenagers experience growth. Usually menstruation is a major cause of anemia among teenage girls and this trend can continue into their adulthood. On the other hand, boys experience anemia and iron deficiency only during their teenage years when they are growing.

Here are some possible causes of aplastic anemia:

* Autoimmune disorder. Lupus, one of the autoimmune disorders, can inflict injuries to the body through attacking the healthy cells inside the bone marrow.

* Use of medication. Certain types of antibiotics and drugs that have strong formulation of chemicals can cause aplastic anemia.

* Radiation or chemotherapy treatments. This procedure aims to kill cancerous cells but at the same time, they can also damage the body’s healthy cells.

* Benzene exposure. This is a known carcinogen and toxic substance that when inhaled or ingested for a long period of time may leave fatal effects on the body.
Being aware of any of what might be an aplastic anemia cause can be helpful during the diagnosis process.

Symptoms of Anemia:

* Pale skin color or tone
* Pale or clear looking eyelids
* Feeling of constantly being tired or weak
* Lack of energy
* Difficulty in focusing or concentrating

A patient is diagnosed to have aplastic anemia when his bone marrow is seen to produce a decreased number of each blood cell type. The human body is composed of three types of blood cells ñ the red blood cells, the white blood cells and the platelets. Reduced production of red blood cells result to a drop in the hemoglobin levels; a decrease in the white blood cell count will increase an individual’s risk of getting serious infections. Decreased levels of platelets would in turn result in the blood clotting very easily. All of these would result a positive diagnosis.

It is not always easy to diagnose Anemia straight away. If you have any of the above symptoms you should consult your doctor as soon as possible. Many people make the wrong decision thinking that Anemia is not a serious condition. On the contrary, Anemia can lead to a number of serious conditions such as heart problems and a difficulty in functioning at you optimal ability.

Ayurveda highly recommends the consumption of fruits like banana, honey, oranges and beetroot juice. All these are great sources of iron and also speed up the absorption of iron into the body. However, most of the ayurvedic recipes are based on the vegetarian diet principles and rarely does this treatment method advocate intake of any non vegetarian food items. As a part of Ayuvedic home remedy even tomato is a great source of vitamin C that helps in better iron absorption and one can have it raw or make it into a juice. Also, it is believed that breast fed infants and children are less likely to be anemic in their growing up years.
