The beauty of Spain ‘Alicante’

Alicante is one of the fastest growing towns in Spain. History says that this city located at the foot of the great Mount Benacantil was inhabited by tribesmen about 7000 years ago. Impressed by its natural beauty, tourists began to flock to this city and gradually it became one of the important tourist spots of Spain. In terms of GDP of Spain, it stands in the fourth place.

What to see in Alicante:

Castle: The famous Santa Barbara Castle is one of the magnificent places which should be visited by a tourist. From the top of this castle, one can see the most imposing view of the city of Alicante and the port and the Postiguet beach. This is the perfect viewpoint for the excellent view of the San Fernando Castle.

Church: San Nicholás cathedral, Santa Faz monastery and the Santa María church are the three very important churches which are not to be missed. Particularly, Santa Faz Monastery is said to have been built in the 16th century. The imposing buildings of these churches and the natural picturesque location around them are worth seeing.

Museums: The Archeological Museum is a prized possession of Alicante city. This is considered to be one of the best museums of Europe. In Asequradsa Museum, there are many works of Picasso, Sempere and Miro Dali. If one wants to know the history of Alicante, the Luncentum Archeological Museum is the ideal place. The Alcudia archeological Museum has the statue of Dama de Elche. Elche is also called as lady of Elche with her big headdress full of coils but almost resembling a man. Some more excavations are going on near this museum.

Shopping: Alicante is the ideal place for shopping. It is a popular place for buying Chocolate made of Villajoyosa. Elda, sweet wine made of Fondillon, Jijona and salted fish meat are some of the most popular products of Alicante. There are shops dealing exclusively with artworks from local artists. The prices are reasonable.

Food: There are many restaurants serving most delicious food. ‘Tapas’ is a cuisine made from local products. Those who are staying in Villas can try this recipe in their kitchen. Paella recipe is another popular rice menu prepared with meat, pork or chicken. Sea food includes most delicious menu of prawns. These are some of the many varieties of food items prepared in Alicante.
