How to Stop Stuttering

Eventually, at least one time in your life, you might come across someone that stutters while they are speaking to you. This can be very embarrassing for that person and they most likely get nervous when they need to speak to someone else. There are various methods that can be learnt, that will help you get rid of it and allow you to speak fluently.

The condition normally starts from childhood and as one progresses into adolescence, it disappears. But if you are not among the fortunate ones whose stuttering disappears on its own; there are techniques that will teach you to overcome this problem.

Let us look at some simple and interesting tips on how to stop stuttering:

Some people have found that singing the words that they want to say can make them stop stuttering. You might think of it as a weird idea but when you practice it, you will be surprised at the effectiveness.

Read to people that you feel a little bit comfortable with. This will help you feel better speaking in front of others.

Before you actually start speaking, visualize the words that you want to use.

Talk slowly and clearly. This gives you time to focus and control your speech before you actually start talking.

Take a deep breath before you say a really big word. You will also want to consider breaking these words down into smaller words that could be easier to say.

Try chewing on something while you are speaking as this might help.

Try speaking either very loudly or in whispers. Other people might be annoyed by this but it really does work.

Holding your breath while speaking is a big mistake; this will only make the condition worse. Holding your breath in can make things worse for you when you talk.

Consider relaxation techniques. Calm your nerves before you start speaking. You can also try meditation for this purpose.

Relax and speak slower. This will help you speak in a relaxed manner.

Do not try to get everything out at one time. Speak one word at a time and slowly complete the sentence.

All these wonderful tips will help you get rid of stuttering. It will be difficult practicing these tips initially but over a period of time, you will be able to overcome your fear and will be able to speak fluently.
