Main Symptoms For Diabetes

Types of Diabetes

Diabetes is a chronic disease caused by too much of glucose in the body. Generally the sugar in the body is regulated by a hormone called insulin. This is secreted by beta cells of the pancreas. Pancreas consists of four types of cells among which beta cells are responsible for secretion of insulin.

The function of insulin is to move the glucose from blood stream in to the cells where it is stored as energy. In diabetes the glucose is not broken down so it remains in the blood and is harmful to body in many ways. This is known as glucose toxicity.

There are two types of diabetes mellitus. Type 1 and type 2 diabetes. Type 1 is less common and it is due to stop in production of insulin in the body. For type 1 diabetic people insulin doses are must and they need to take well balanced diet to maintain body glucose levels. Type 1 diabetes is less common among people and it constitutes only 5 to 15 percent of the total people. Insulin is a must dose for Type 1 diabetic people. And type 1 diabetes is more common in young adults and teenagers so it is known as early onset diabetes or juvenile diabetes.

Women suffering with diabetes during pregnancy is gestational diabetes. Women with gestational diabetes have risk of having large babies. Gestational diabetes may only last till the delivery if proper care is taken by the mother during pregnancy. It occurs to women during second half of pregnancy.

The main signs of diabetes are

Increased thirst

Excessive urination

Tiredness

Unexplained weight loss

Symptoms of type 1 diabetes develops quickly some of the related signs of diabetes are

Unclear vision

Cramps

Constipation

Skin related infections

Type 2 diabetes is more common among people. Type 2 diabetes generally occurs for people who are 40 years and above in age. So it is also known as Adult onset diabetes. And insulin is not a must over here so it is known as non insulin dependent diabetes.

People, who are diabetic need to monitor their weight, take part in physical activities like running, skipping, and swimming. Take a balanced diet which is rich in fiber content i.e. fruits and vegetables rich in fiber. They should cut down intake of simple carbohydrates.
