There are many popular myths about acne. This article will address some of the misconceptions about acne.

Acne only affects appearance

Mental health issues can be prompted by acne. Depression and body dysmorphia can be caused by acne, spots and pimples. Social withdrawal is closely linked to severe acne.

Only those with poor hygiene get acne

While skin infections are associated with acne, lack of hygiene is not the reason for acne outbreaks. Sunbathing is good for acne

It’s true that exposure to the sun will improve acne in the short-term because it dries out excess oils. However, long-term the skin adapts and the acne is unfazed. Worse, there is scientific evidence that sun exposure damages the skin and increases the chance of skin cancer.

Makeup causes acne

Some cosmetics can clog pores and lead to spots and pimples. Cosmetics that are labeled “noncomedogenic” or “nonacnegenic” are safe to use. Some brands are made with ingredients that actually treat acne.

Acne is only a teenage condition

Many adults can suffer from acne so it’s not only teenagers who get spots. For most people, acne will clear up when they reach their early to mid-20s. But some people experience acne for the first time as late as their 40s. And for the most unfortunate of all, some people endure acne flare-ups their entire lives.

Acne is related to sexual activity

The myth that too much fun, or not enough action, causes pimples is often repeated. There is no evidence for this. Hormone production is affected by sexual activity but the link between how’s your father and sebum production is unknown. Stress and anger also affect hormone levels.

Squeezing spots is the best way to get rid of them
