Different Types of Diabetes

Type 2 diabetes is also known as adult onset diabetes or non insulin dependent diabetes. It is related to disorder of metabolism which is due to high blood sugar level in the body. This high sugar level is due to a condition called insulin resistance, which is when the cells of the human body i.e. the receptors of the cells do not react with the insulin produced by the beta cells of the pancreas. Pancreas contain four different kinds of cells among which beta cells are responsible for secretion of insulin

Type 2 diabetes goes unrecognized in early stages because the blood glucose level rises very slowly and a person feels nothing is wrong with him. One third of the people who have diabetes do not know that they are suffering from diabetes type 2.

The main causes of diabetes are changes in lifestyle and genetic

No or low physical activity, unbalanced diet and high alcohol consumption comes under changes in lifestyle. Parent passing diabetes to children means genetic reasons for development of diabetes among people.

The main symptoms of adult onset diabetes include:

increase thirst

increase urination

Increase in appetite

losing weight without any reason

Feeling weak and tired

Getting cranky

Slow healing

Unclear vision

Tingling in hands or feets

Skin related infections

If any of the above symptoms appear to an individual he/she needs to consult a doctor and start the treatment as early as possible.

Among the prevention tips people need to involve themselves into physical activities , take a well balanced healthy diet and stop consuming alcohol.

The diet of a diabetic person should have high fiber content, fruits and vegetable which are in rich in fiber are broccoli, carrot, beans, peas, apples, bananas, and dry fruits like apricots, raisins and dates.

Diabetes diagnosis is done by Urine and blood test. Urine test have glucose in it for a diabetic person. Blood test is in three ways and in all the ways the blood sugar level is high and above normal range.
