Bone Densitometry – The Best Clinical Technique to Diagnose Osteoporosis

Bones are important constituents of our body, which make the skeletal system. Bones are just like a steel structure of a building on which it stands. Very similarly, skeletal system of our body is a structure on which whole body constituent like muscle and organs stand. The composition of bone is very important which some time changes with age and in some cases the composition of bone reduces to a low level which gives rise to a malady called osteoporosis. Which can be detected by a technique called Bone Densitometry.

Osteoporosis is deficiency of elements of bones, which make it tough and hard. This deficiency can lead to several problems in man and women. Even a small collision or fall-down can cause fracture in bones of people suffering from osteoporosis. Osteoporosis is a disease of old age and most commonly occurs in women after menopause. Women need to check their bone density at the age of 40 and 45, although men are also at risk in their middle age. It is a slow disease which can take your life if not cured.

Osteoporosis can be easily diagnosed by Bone densitometry; it is one of the most widely used techniques all over world to detect osteoporosis. The technique is usually performed in radiology department. It is performed on the basis of dual X-ray absorptiometry, which is called Bone densitometry in medical terms. Final results are made comparing the normal bone density and that of detected one. Apart from this there are many other techniques as well which are practiced in hospitals. Ultrasound, Quantitative computed tomography(QCT), are some of the newer technique which are under practiced but they have certain limitation at some or other point of diagnosis.

Symptoms of disease are quite unique but if you are conscious about your health and aware about osteoporosis you can really help your self. Although gradual decline in height and back pain, are symptoms of osteoporosis. There is only one way to detect osteoporosis that is Bone densitometry. This technique is also helpful in determining the time required to fill the gap of minimum bone density requirement which make a normal bone density.

Clinical Consulting Services For Cost Management

Prescription benefits management is emerging as one of the fastest-growing medical sub-specialties, and with very good reason: When used effectively, prescription benefits management can save medical cost payers hundreds of thousands of dollars each year by reducing prescription medication expenses. One aspect of prescription benefits management focuses on the prescriptions themselves. But another — clinical consulting services — seeks to work directly with physicians and other health-care providers to reduce prescription costs.

Some patient advocates have raised concerns about consultants’ access to and influence upon physicians. In a few cases, these concerns may be justified. A few clinical consultants have had close relationships with particular pharmaceutical companies, and have encouraged doctors to choose certain medications for some conditions.

But not all clinical consulting services are created equal. Ethical, professional consultants approach their work from a more holistic perspective, and seek to analyze prescription trends and clinical protocols for cost-savings opportunities, rather than recommending a particular prescription medication. Some consultants even work with physicians and health-care providers to evaluate outcome data, and to seek prescription protocols that provide the optimal combination of successful outcomes and cost containment.

If properly applied, prescription benefits management and clinical consulting services can provide measurable cost management, without adversely impacting patient access to medications or quality of care. When considering clinical consulting services, ask your prospective vendors about their approach. Clinical consulting services that evaluate the entire spectrum of prescription costs, care options and patient outcomes will be most likely to provide significant cost management over the long run.
