The Symptoms of Diabetes

Diabetes is mainly of two type’s type 1 and type 2 diabetes mellitus. The most important symptoms for diabetes of both the types is elevated blood glucose levels. In type 1 diabetes this is due to body unable to produce insulin and in type 2 diabetes this is due to body develops a resistance to insulin. This makes the insulin production low.

The high glucose levels in the body makes the symptoms which in turn makes diabetes easy to detect.

In ignored cases of diabetes it leads to severe complications and health risks.

The common symptoms for diabetes type 1 and type 2 diabetes are

Weakness: Due to glucose toxicity the glucose is not converted to energy and a person feels tired and always feels happy to sleep.

Weight loss : Diabetic people are unable to process many of the needed calories required for the body the weight loss in common symptom.

Excessive Urination : As the kidneys spills out excessive sugar present in the blood there is an increase in amount of urine made. This condition leads to dehydration in the body as expelled sugar takes large amount of water along with it.

Excessive Thirst : Increase in urination leads to increased thirst. To compensate the loss of water the body signals of thirst

Excessive eating : It is common in type 2 diabetic patients as they suffer from a condition known as insulin resistance. Here the body makes extra insulin. One of the functions of insulin is to stimulate hunger.

Slow wound healing: High blood sugar is harmful in many ways. It prevent white blood cells i.e. antibodies, whose function is to defend the body against bacteria and cleaning up dead tissue and cells. Which make poor wound healing.

Nervous system damage: A person who is diabetic gets easily irritated, agitated or confused most of the times. One of the main reasons for it is high glucose levels in the body.

Infections : Skin infections, yeast infections and frequent urinary tract infections occurs these are due to high blood sugar level in the body, which prevents immune system of the body to act effectively.

Diabetes diagnosis is mainly by two tests, urine and blood test. In urine test there is content of sugar in the urine and blood test is of mainly three types and in all the three types the blood glucose level is high and above normal range.

At the initial stages of diabetes, people may suffer from symptoms like high blood sugar levels i.e. when the blood sugar level is high and above 160 to 180mg/dL. When the glucose level is high the kidney excretes additional water and this leads to urination and dehydration is common.

To compensate the body requires water, so excessive thirst is natural. A person losses weight because of calories loss in urine. Type 1 diabetic people lose weight easily compared to type 2 diabetic people.

The signs and symptoms developed in type 1 diabetes are abrupt and rapid leading to a condition known as ketoacidosis. In spite of high presence of glucose the cells in the body cannot utilize it properly this makes the fats to break down producing ketones in and other chemical toxin substances leading to blood acidic.

The symptoms of ketoacidosis are excessive thirst and urination, nausea, vomiting, fatigue and abdominal pain especially in children. The breathing smells like nail polish remover. In ignored cases of ketoacidosis it leads to coma, and death.

People with type 1 diabetes develop ketoacidosis even after starting insulin treatment if they miss an injection or get over stressed due to infection or accident or serious medical condition.

The initial stages for type 2 diabetes are increased thirst and urination and they get worsen. Most of the times the diabetes goes unrecognized and as insulin deficiency increases symptoms develops.

Richard Farrell Discusses Diseases Related to The Scalp Which Can Cause Hair Loss

There is no known cause for alopecia areata and therefore no known cure
There are a variety of hair and scalp diseases; some are very common, while other more severe hair and scalp diseases are fortunately rare. Alopecia Areata is an autoimmune skin disease that causes the body’s immune system to attack the hair follicles, causing baldness in patches. It affects 1.7 percent of the population, including 4.7 million people in the United States. In cases where the disease progresses to the point where all scalp hair is lost, it is called Alopecia Totalis, and where hair loss advances to the entire body it is called Alopecia Universialis. There is no known cause for alopecia areata and therefore no known cure. The disease usually hits before age 20, and does not seem to favor one particular gender or culture. Hair loss with alopecia areata comes in stages, with hair returning and falling out in phases.

Japanese scientists have linked the overproduction of sebum to hair loss
Seborrheic Dermatitis, an advanced form of seborrhea, is a non-contagious skin disease that causes excessive oiliness of the skin, most commonly in the scalp, caused by overproduction of sebum, the substance produced by the body to lubricate the skin where hair follicles are present. Seborrhea is the form of the disease where oiliness only occurs without redness and scaling. The disease commonly occurs in infants, middle-aged people, and the elderly, and is commonly known in infants as cradle cap. The disease has no cure, yet in infants it usually disappears in time. With adults the condition may persist with varying degrees of severity. Flaking, scaling and redness often are symptoms of this disease. It is easily treated with topical solutions found in creams containing corticosteroids and shampoos containing pine tar, selenium sulfide or salicylic acid. Seborrhea and seborrheic dermatitis are both easily treated and controlled, and should be because left untreated they can contribute to hair loss. In fact, a group of Japanese scientists have linked the overproduction of sebum to hair loss. This is because the sebaceous glands in areas of the scalp where hair is thinning or bald are enlarged, and are thought to cause the clogging of pores and several other problems that promote hair loss.

Psoriasis is termed an immune-mediated disorder that affects different areas and functions of the body. It is non-contagious, and one of the areas of the body it can affect is the scalp. It usually appears as patches of raised red skin accompanied by burning and itching. Several contributing factors are thought to contribute to the outbreak of psoriasis, including emotional stress, certain infections, toxemia, the thinning of the intestinal walls and adverse reactions to certain drugs. At least half of people who have psoriasis have scalp psoriasis. Like seborrhea, scalp psoriasis left untreated can cause hair loss. Fortunately, it can also be treated with a variety of topical creams and shampoos containing tar and salicylic acid.
