Hair Falling Out? Don’t Panic!

Hair loss can be extremely difficult to accept and deal with especially for women. However, if you understand the common causes of this condition you can take steps to prevent it or reduce its severity. Hair loss in women can be absolutely devastating for the sufferer’s self image and emotional well being.

Treatment of this type of hair loss includes immunomodulating therapies such as glucocorticoids, topical immunotherapy, or anthralin, or biologic-responce modifiers such as Minoxidil. The choice of treatment depends on the patient’s age, as well as the extent of hair loss. Milder cases often see a greater improvement with treatment than severe cases. In no case does treatment restore full hair in patients with 100% scalp or body hair loss.

Even more unfortunately, the medical community also treats the issue of women’s hair loss as if it were nonexistent. Since hair loss doesn’t appear to be life threatening, most physicians pay little attention to women’s complaints about hair loss and essentially tell their patients that “it’s no big deal” and that “you’ll just have to live with it.”

Stress and some illnesses such as anemia and infections, can also lead to hair loss. Stress can lead to an increase in hormones circulating through the blood stream and can also cause problems with the body systems responsible for hair growth. Infection can disrupt the normal operations of the body’s system and cause problems with normal hair growth and patterns.

The only proven treatment for female-pattern baldness is minoxidil. Most users see improvements, including a halt to the balding or slowing down of it, as well as thicker hair. Up to 25% of women experience hair regrowth. Other solutions include wigs, hair transplants (taking hair from the sides and back of the head) and plastic surgery (such as scalp reduction, where the bald area is removed and the bit with hair on is stretched forward).

Unfortunately many conventional doctors downplay hair loss as an inevitable part of aging for both sexes, treating it with topical products like Rogaine that enhance existing hair but offer no real solution to the causes of hair loss, and therefore no prevention of continued hair thinning. This leads many women — especially those in menopause — to think that there is nothing they can do to stop their hair loss.

Experts say our tresses usually grow at the rate of about one-half inch per month – with each hair having a growth phase of two to six years. At that point the hair “rests” for a period of time, then falls out – and the follicle from which it sprang soon starts growing a new strand. And so the cycle continues, usually well into our senior years.

Don’t Let Arthritis Be a Barrier Preventing You From Proper Exercise

We often hear about the dangers of heart disease and how we can protect our heart and its pipes by increasing our fitness. But we rarely hear about how we can safeguard our joints from the incapacitating condition called arthritis that can downgrade the quality of our life as we grow older by a far greater degree.

Arthritis is a term that covers more than one hundred conditions that involve the joint – the moving part where a bone meets another bone such as the knee or the elbow. Although arthritis can impair the last third of a persons life it can start at a young age and be smoldering away as early as the twenties or thirties. But it is not until you reach your forties or fifties that joints begin to stiffen and movement becomes painful.

Joint cartilage is a rubber like tissue at the end of our bones that allow for smooth movement of our limbs and to absorb shock from the rigors of daily living. When this cartilage wears away the result is loss of motion, stiffness and pain. It eventually can result in disability and needing to depend on others.

We know now that it is not overuse that is the cause of arthritis but rather ‘disuse’. A lifestyle that does not include enough strength building and maintaining activity gradually reduces the ranges of motion of the joint starving the cartilage of the fluid it needs to be healthy. It is only with movement that lubrication is stimulated and nutrients can be absorbed and waste can be removed. You cannot move easily and pain free if your joints are not healthy.

Keeping your muscular system strong is vital to either prevent or manage arthritis. Strong muscles, tendons and ligaments support, cushion and protect the joints even those that are weak and already damaged from arthritis. Muscle wasting from inactivity has a huge negative impact on this condition as the joint no longer has the supportive affect from strong firm muscles.

Weak, flabby thin muscles cannot protect the joints from literally wearing themselves away like an engine without oil. Without that support from the muscles the cartilage wears excessively just from everyday activities.

As this condition progresses and worsens debilitating pain leads to an even more inactive and sedentary lifestyle. This then exposes people with this condition to the increased risk of other serious health conditions like heart disease or diabetes or many others.

Strength training exercise is especially beneficial to people with arthritis because it keeps the bones, muscles and joints healthy. It has long been recognized that proper muscle building and maintaining exercise can improve physical function and reduce pain thereby improving quality of life. But research shows that people with this condition have a much lower rate of participation in proper exercise than people without arthritis.

It is important to see health problems such as arthritis as a reason to start and continue a proper strength training exercise program rather than as an obstacle or barrier preventing exercise. Get some help from a fitness professional as it is important that time is not wasted on unsafe and ineffective exercise. In just a few months strong muscles will take up their support positions and take the weight and pressure off those poor suffering joints.

Although this condition is the result of lifestyle choices made and not made years or decades ago it is never too late to slow the progression of the disease down. When you get some relief from pain and stiffness you may enjoy the many enjoyable activities that our exciting modern world has to offer.

Liposuction – Don’t Give Into the Pressure Without an Adult Present

Liposuction is one option teens love to have to avoid peer pressure. They see it is as a quick way to deal with the lumps and bulges caused by teenage hormones. They think it will solve all their problems. In some cases, it might. In others, they may think the results were not what they anticipated. In those cases, they were expecting more than any surgery could deliver. No cosmetic procedure will keep the girls from making fun of you. If it is not for your fat, they will make fun of your clothes or your hair. That is part of teenage life unfortunately. The first solution sought should be to improve the girl’s self-esteem.

When teens think of liposuction, they think it’s a quick procedure with little risk. That is a relative statement. When compared to some major surgeries, it does take little time. When compared to the risks that some procedures have, it has little risk. However, it does take time to recover and there are plenty of risks associated. Many people have bruising and swelling for a few days after. Some experience infections. It is also expensive. Most teenagers think a few weeks at a part time job will do the trick. For most, it will not be enough. To avoid peer pressure, it might be better to glean a new set of friends. It might be cheaper.

Teens see liposuction as a quick way to shed those pounds that people keep mentioning. However, they need to understand that it is not a quick fix for people more than a few pounds overweight. It is a good solution if you have a few stubborn fat pockets. It is not healthy to take more than ten pounds of fat from the body at a time. For those facing several pounds to lose, exercise, and diet is the better option to try first. Some use the procedure as a final reward for losing significant amounts of weight. Peer pressure is nothing compared to poor health due to bad decisions.

If your teens want to have liposuction, they need to have a parent along for the ride. The adult perspective will help them get through the hurdles of the medical profession. They need understand all risks and potential complications. The parent needs to be clear with the teen about why they want the surgery. Giving into peer pressure is no reason to undergo major surgery.

Fad Diets Don’t Work – Fad Exercise Does!

As long as there are people trying to lose weight and get fit, there will be trends and fads that cater to them. However, the tried and true statement for anyone on New Years is, “I resolve to eat healthier and exercise more” and that remains the singular truth about losing weight. Just because the latest diet fads don’t work doesn’t mean there aren’t trends to dive into in order to lose weight. In fact, fad exercise can be a great way to lose weight provided you jump into it smart and with the proper foundation.

The foundation of all exercise is having the right nutrition in your body to promote lean muscle gain. During exercise your muscles will need protein to repair torn tissue and promote new muscle growth. The easiest and most fat free way to supply this protein is through a protein supplement. Whey protein shakes make a good choice for people trying to lose weight, because the whey protein is quick to absorb and easy to digest. Whey protein is also low-fat, which will help the muscles grow in a lean way, without added fat tissue.

Once you start with a proper foundation, jump into fad exercise and lose weight in a fun and trendy way. Here are some great fad exercise trends that can be great for burning fat and losing weight.

Pilates has become a very popular way for people to strengthen and develop core abdominal and torso muscles. The point of pilates is to provide a low-impact method of core strength and training. With a powerful core, other strength training is easier and safe, and developing core muscles by themselves promote better posture and health. The best part of pilates is that they promote development of core muscle tissue without having to do endless crunches, pushups and squats. Pilates groups exist almost everywhere, so join a pilates group and get fit in a social and trendy way.

Yoga is another way to strengthen and develop their core muscles without having to go through repetitive cycles of boring exercises. Like pilates, yoga emphasizes the core torso and postural muscles but it goes on step further. Yoga involves balance and strength training in the lower and upper body as well by moving fluidly from posture and posture and involving dynamic stretching. Yoga is a great way to tone muscles throughout the entire body as well as provide cool down stretching after more rigorous activity.

Another trendy way to stay fit is to start hooping. Hooping is when you use a fitness hula hoop to generate an aerobic and core exercise. A fitness hoop is weighted to provide more resistance throughout the body and promote an easier balanced motion. While it may sound childish, pick one up for 10 minutes and you’ll already feel the burn throughout your entire body. What could be a funner way to tone up and lose weight than to work out with the 1950s favorite fad?

Don’t Scrimp On Insurance

The economy is in a tough place right now, many people have lost their jobs and everyone is looking for places to either save money, or make outright cuts in the household budget. One place to avoid scrimping and saving is with your insurance. To a lot of people, insurance feels like an expenditure that goes out with nothing coming in.

It’s important to remember a major aspect of all types of insurance – auto insurance, health insurance, home insurance, life insurance and renters insurance – is protection against a catastrophe or disaster. A major car accident, a burglary of your residence, a fire that destroys your home, all these things are rare and you hope to never face them, but if the unexpected happens and you are insured, the force of the disaster is not nearly as bad and you are quickly back on the track of putting your life in order again.

Probably the most important insurance to consider when economic times become difficult is health insurance. If you get your health insurance through your employer you might find your benefits being cut, or your out-of-paycheck health insurance expenses rise, or if you were to lose your job you may lose your health insurance altogether. If you become unemployed be sure to look into COBRA benefits available to you, and begin looking for personal health insurance for you and your family.

Keeping your health insurance is important for a number of reasons; the most obvious is in case of a medical emergency. Without health insurance a visit to a doctor to check out a severely sick child can be very expensive. And if you or a member of your family faces a hospital visit, or emergency surgery, the costs can be staggering.

Another consequence of not having health insurance is you and your family will likely skip routine check-ups and other medical visits. The long-term health care costs for missing annual medical examinations can add up if a condition that might be caught and easily treated goes undetected for a time.

Health insurance is only one area where you simply don’t want to go uninsured. Theft of your belongings is a terrible violation and made that much worse if you do not have home insurance or renters insurance to replace the items. And if you don’t have auto insurance you face fines and possible towing, not to mention you will be personally sued if you cause an accident with damages or injuries.

The economy is struggling right now and everyone is struggling along with it, but remember – you can’t afford to not have insurance.

Don’t Be Duped By False Claims

There are no magic pills. No magic contraptions. No magic potions. Period.

Wrap your head around that fact now, because I’m about to tell you the ugly truth and you aren’t going to like it.

The equation for getting and staying healthy and fit is simple … but there is ONLY ONE equation. And it doesn’t include machines, pills or potions that promise fast fat loss and health without any work or effort whatsoever.

There is no quick way to melt fat and keep it off just by ingesting some crazy concoction made from some ‘as yet unheard of’ substance.

Do you really think that ingesting something that contains calories of ANY sort will help you to lose weight? No.

It all boils down to the basic fact that you must burn more calories than you eat. End of story.

So, how do we do this? We do this by NOT EATING SO MUCH, not by eating or drinking crazy potions which only ADD to that calorie count you’re trying to keep under control. Eat whole, natural, HEALTHY foods that keep you feeling fuller longer and you’re going to win the battle.

Every single product out there that appears to promise quick fat loss merely by eating or drinking their product is a SCAM!

Let’s move on to exercise. I know exercise is hard and sweating feels uncomfortable and you WISH you could get a workout in, in only 4 minutes maximum a day but I’m here to tell you that WILL NEVER WORK.

It doesn’t matter what machine or contraption it is, if it’s promising that you only have to workout for 4 minutes a day, or that you can work out just by sitting, they are misleading you badly and deserve to be spanked.

You MUST move your ENTIRE body a LOT in order to truly get fit and healthy. The human body was designed to move, hunt, gather, run from predators and all that stuff the cavemen used to do. If we don’t give our bodies a chance to do any of that, eventually our muscles atrophy, the fat settles in, and here we are, the society we are now, experiencing an obesity epidemic.

Yes, it’s hard to hear. People nowadays seem to have their heads in the sand about what it really takes to realize good health. People also seem to be always looking for the ‘easy way out’ these days.

When it comes to health and fitness there IS NO EASY WAY OUT. I can’t be emphatic enough about this.

When it comes to wasting your money and regretting it later, don’t let yourself be a statistic. Save your money when it comes to gizmos and unbelievable promises of fast fitness and quick fat loss.

Put your heart into following the only equation that really works: Calories In < Calories Out.

Eat the right foods for maximum energy and nutrients, and not too much of it. Work out to help burn more calories than you’re ingesting and watch the fat melt.

And don’t let yourself be duped by the scammers. Now you know better, right?
