Curing Migraine Headache With Preventive Treatment

Migraine headache is onset when the blood vessels in your brain enlarge resulting in the stretching of nerve fibers around them. These inflamed arteries result in extending nerve fibers that promptly release chemicals which bring on the intense throbbing pains known as migraine.

Nausea, diarrhea, fainting spells are common occurrences with Migraine. The victims also suffer find it difficult and painful to endure bright lights, sounds. Migraine headaches result in major work stoppages as over 25 million Americans are reported to be afflicted with this ailment.

Common causes of migraine are lack of proper rest, worry, insufficient food etc. Most migraine sufferers immediately begin to recognize warning signals that warn them of an oncoming attack and resort to precautionary steps to ward off or at least severely impair the magnitude of the attack.

While a definite migraine headache treatment is still to be discovered some common tips and combating techniques are discussed below. Non medical therapies resort to recognizing and reversing the most potential cause of your migraine. If for instance certain foods trigger this headache in you, try steering clear of such food thereby eliminating one major contributor in your case. Other such measures can also help to bring down the frequency of the attacks.

Prevention tactics work best in battling this disease. Smoking, bright lights, chocolates, caffeine are known provokers of this pain and hence should be avoided as far as possible. Acupuncture helps relieve pain. Acupuncture refers to identifying key points in your body and jabbing these points with needles.

For mild variations of migraines, individuals resort to prescriptive medicines available from local chemists. A common medication available over the counter are analgesics which only act as pain killers and do not really eliminate the inflammation of the blood vessels which are the root cause of the migraine. Tylenol, an acetaminophen based product and Ibuprofen, a non steroidal anti-inflammatory drug are common over the counter medications that you can purchase from local pharmacies.

NSAIDs unlike analgesics treat migraine headaches by reducing the inflammation of the blood vessels. You can also take drugs like corticosteroids which work on the same principle as NSAIDs but they contain steroids and so are considered harmful to the body.

Another point against corticosteroids is the longer time it takes to produce results. Another common drug used for migraine headache treatment is Triptan. This also works by reducing the arteries but should only be used under medical supervision as they are known to trigger heart attacks and strokes.

Migraine And Its Types

Migraine headache is the type of headache that is known to impact the patient negatively for long durations. Chiropractic spinal manipulation is widely used alternative remedy to cure migraines and chronic headaches. As shown by various recent researches, chiropractic treatment is operative in the management and cure of both common and classical migraine. Spinal manipulations, or chiropractic adjustments, are strictly natural cure method for headache and migraine relief.

Migraines can be caused by too much stress. In these days where we are constantly struggling to make more money, to support the family and pay the bills, it is no wonder that our brains can get overworked and exhausted. This can prevent the blood from flowing properly to the brain and providing essential nutrients and oxygen to make it work properly.

The exact causes of migraine are still unknown, although children with migraine are likely to acquire it after a minor trigger, like certain foods. Most migraineurs know their triggers and are likely to avoid them, or they suffer the consequence. The most common triggers are alcohol, chocolate, cheese, nuts, shellfish, Chinese food with MSG, and sugar.

Unlike a blacking out of vision or total blindness, a visual migraine is like a temporary loss of vision associated with bright flashing lights and jagged geometric lines. A visual hallucination is actually a matter of erception that does not involve any external stimuli or sensory data. Thus, the person’s frequent jagged geometric auras qualify as visual hallucination. However, it is important to understand that having visual hallucinations in connection with a visual migraine doesn’t mean the person is becoming insane, which is a common misinterpretation.

Stress, anxiety, fatigue, certain medications, and alcohol will also trigger migraines. You need to understand that migraines are triggered by your lifestyle, and that to prevent and control them, you need to modify your habits.

Preventive treatments include the use of doctor-prescribed drugs to keep you from getting head pains. They include medications like antidepressants, blood pressure medication, and anti-seizure medicine. They are taken daily to treat actual headaches and to lessen the frequency and severity of migraine episodes, especially if you experience more than one migraine per week.

The objectives of treatment for migraine are to relieve current pain and to minimize attacks. But before even deciding on how best to relieve the pain, you need to know what triggers your migraine attacks so as to avoid them. This is your first line of defense against headaches.

Contracted and tense muscles in certain parts of body, such as neck and back are commonly the reason for causing tension headaches. This is why a chiropractor should be ideal for the treatment of such kind of headaches. Misalignment or any kind of compromise of spinal bones may cause the tension headache because of nerve or tissue pressure. Unfortunately, the lack of proper care leads to the severe headache which becomes persistent over the extended periods of time.

Those who suffer from migraine attacks frequently can also take advantage of home use detox foot spa such as the BioEnergiser Classic Detox Foot Spa and the BioEnergiser Professional Detox Foot Spa. These easy to use detox foot spas relieve your body of the toxins that get accumulated over time.

The best way to prevent migraine attacks it to avoid migraine triggers. By keeping a migraine diary and noting down the activities you performed when the migraine attack occurred, you can identify your migraine trigger.

Migraines affect about 30 or 40 million Americans, but they are less common than tension headaches. It is estimated that about 75% of all headaches are tension headaches. Tension headaches are typically characterized by a dull pain over the entire head while migraines are usually throbbing in nature and located in one particular spot. In other words, tension-type headaches are a constant dull pain while migraines throb like the beating of the heart.

The pain of a cluster headache can be extremely intense, deep and explosive. Migraines are usually “pulsing” while clusters are not. Between 10 and 20 percent of cluster patients have “ice-pick” or “stabbing” pain around the eyes.

In most cases, headaches subside on their own without any treatment. However, to get an early relief you can take help of massage or herbal remedies. If this does not help, you can take help of non-prescription painkillers such as aspirin, ibuprofen, acetaminophen or naproxen. Sufferers of chronic headaches may need to consult a doctor for stronger prescription medicines to get relief from headache. Apart from giving you medications, your doctor may suggest you to keep a headache diary wherein you would be asked to make a note of when the pain started and how long it lasted.

The Safest All Natural Migraine Cures With No Side Effects

If you’re reading this then you like me have suffered from Migraines and I’m sure you’ve taken many medications to help deal with the attack when it begins. In fact many of us carry around pain medication with us where ever we go just on the off chance that we get struck down while in the middle of something.

Well if you’ve read any of my other articles you’ve learned about easy ways that allow you to take better care of yourself. And taking care of yourself is the key to dealing with your migraines. By lowering your stress levels, eating better, eliminating trigger foods and getting some regular exercise you can start to minimize your attacks and perhaps even the intensity of pain you feel when you do get one.

But there’s still one piece missing. To live migraine free you need to be able to keep your body in a healthy state. So we here at the Migraine Freedom Team have put together a list of natural vitamins, nutrients and herbs that are particularly helpful for migraineurs.

1) Magnesium

Magnesium is critical to your health and research points to a relationship between migraine and magnesium deficiency. One hypothesis is Magnesium’s critical function in expanding muscles and opening up the blood vessels located in the brain. It has no serious side effects beyond diarrhea if taken in excessive amounts. In fact, in cases where migraine headaches have been bad enough to send the migraine sufferer to the emergency room its been that intravenous magnesium sulfate can eliminate a migraine within 15 minutes.

2) Vitamin B2

Also known as riboflavin, vitamin B2 is required for a wide variety of cellular processes. Like the other B vitamins, it plays a key role in energy production in your mitochondria. Mitochondrial dysfunction is thought to be a factor for migraine sufferers. Studies where patients used 400mg of vitamin B2 daily were shown to significantly decrease migraines frequency and intensity.

3) Feverfew

Feverfew is a traditional medicinal herb. It has historically been used for reducing fever, treating headaches, arthritis and digestive problems. What it does is helps relax the blood vessels in your brain and reduce inflammation. Both of these are key elements in migraine headache attacks.

4) Butterbur

It was used by native Americans as a remedy for headache and inflammation. Butterbur studies have shown an association between Butterbur and a decrease in migraine frequency. It seems to do this through its strong anti-inflammatory properties. It’s also very safe showing no side effects even in children. The only caveat to be aware of is that Butterbur naturally contains chemicals called pyrrolizidine alkaloids (PA’s) which are toxic to the liver so it is important to be careful when taking a butterbur supplement that it comes from an extract that’s free of these chemicals.

5) Co-Enzyme Q10

The Mitochondria in our cells work to produce energy for the body through a process known as oxidative phosphorylation. It has been found that at least a subset of migraineurs have a dysfunction in their mitochondria’s ability to perform this process. In studies, Co Q10 has been shown to help improve energy production in the mitochondria of human cells. Co-enzyme Q10 is very safe even in large doses and has a host of other health benefits protecting the heart, providing more energy and being a powerful anti-oxidant and more.

6) Essential Fatty Acids

It is believed that neurogenic-inflammation (inflammation in the brain) is involved in the causation of migraines. Our cells contain an enzyme that causes inflammation. It is normally used to protect us when when we’re injured, dealing with allergies, or when in diseased states. The body also has an enzyme that naturally decreases inflammation. However, when the ratio of inflammatory to anti-inflammatory enzymes becomes unbalanced (they easily can due to pollution, stress, and toxins) the result is damage and the deterioration of your body similar to a car overheating after being run too hard and too long. The result can range from arthritis in your joints, damage to the brain causing Alzheimer’s disease, damage to your arteries causing hearth attacks and stroke or in this case contributing to your migraine attacks. Essential fatty acids have the nutrients that your body needs to bring these enzymes back into balance cooling the inflammation of your body and brain.

This list may seem like a lot to take but it results in a migraine cure that really works. Now to avoid having to take handfuls of pills (I try to keep my pill popping to an absolute minimum when ever possible) you should look for a product that contains a combination of ingredients in one. That way you get the benefit of fortifying yourself in multiple ways at once while lowering the number of pills you have to take daily.

To your migraine freedom!

How Does Caffeine Help In Relieving Migraine

According to a study, around 29.5 million Americans suffer from migraines (women being affected three times more than men). Although not common, but headaches can affect children also.

The first thing which comes to mind when we have a headache is caffeine. But does this product really help in relieving headaches? To find out the answer to this question it’s important to first understand what causes a headache and what properties of caffeine could help in relieving the headache.

Headache is caused due to variations in the quantity of the chemical called serotonin in the body. This chemical affects the blood vessels by contracting them if its level is high and dilating (swelling) the blood vessels when its level is low. When the blood vessels swell, we experience an acute throbbing pain in our head (normally localized near the temples) which is known as headache.

Caffeine is a stimulant and works on the nervous system. It helps not only in making a person alert, it works as a diuretic and a vasoconstrictor (constricts blood vessels) also. This property is what makes it useful in treatment of migraines. It is popularly used in many prescriptions and over-the-counter headache medications. It is believed to increase the effectiveness of the pain-relieving medication by 40%.

Another important aspect is that it helps the body to absorb the pain relieving medicines more quickly of which it is a part. This helps in providing faster relief.

Another common consideration of using it in the medication is that if the medication has some percentage of caffeine, the patient will need lesser of the medication as the process of healing is speeded up. This helps in eliminating any side effects from the primary medication (addiction, overdose or interactions with other medications).

It doesn’t necessarily be consumed through medicines; it can be consumed in form of coffee, tea, soda or chocolate also. These products contain a lot of caffeine (chocolate is highly caffeinated).

Never Let Migraine Attack You

They are painful, can last from 4 hours to 5 days and interfere with the everyday development of normal life. Although nobody addresses what exactly causes migraines headaches there still hope for preventing them and even you can get migraine relief in case of incidence by taking a proper treatment.

Migraines can be attacked from two fronts:

1 – Preventing migraine

2 – Controlling the symptoms

Preventing migraine

For especially uncomfortable situations when the occurrences of headaches are more than twice a month and interferes with the development of the normal, preventive migraine medication is recommended. Because migraine symptoms and causes vary from patient to patient, there is a variety of medicines that can be prescribed by physician for each patient in particular.

One important factor in avoiding migraines is to find out which factors triggers a migraine attack. Probably some of the factors can’t be avoided, but many of then can.  Parameters such as food (canned, smoked, aged and cured meat), sleeping pattern, stress situations, weather conditions, exposure to strong light, sound levels, smells, allergies, medication, exposure to smoke, menstrual cycle, pregnancy, menopause, birth control pills, hormonal replacement therapy  and exercise must be watched.  Exposure to tobacco, caffeine, alcohol and drugs must also be considered in the search for triggers.

Specific food restriction proved to be effective instead of a full diet. For example gluten is a major migraine trigger for people suffering from the celiac disease.

Ingesting herbal and nutritional supplements has also proven to be effective, among recommended supplements we can find: Coenzyme Q10, butterbur, feverfew, magnesium citrate, Vitamin B2, Vitamin b12, and melatonin.

Stress both physical and psychological is another major triggering factor.  Stress controlling programs and therapy are useful tools against the headaches. It is also believed that a short daily aerobics session is quite helpful for controlling migraines and it’s much appreciated for helping to keep a fit body.  Physical relaxing activities such as yoga, pilates, aqua-gym, swimming, cycling, walking or any kind of activity that gives you pleasure.

Controlling migraine

Conventional treatment includes a wide variety of medicines: analgesics (aspirins, paracetamol, and ibuprofen), antiemetics (for reducing nausea symptoms and prevent vomiting). Drugstores often offer medicines that combine analgesics with antiemetics drugs for migraine headaches. There are also non steroidal anti inflammatory drugs, anti depressants, serotonin receptor antagonists, ergot derivate, ans steroids drugs. Not all of them are approved by the FDA for migraine treatment.

There are also herbal treatments for migraine headaches. Feverfew and cannabis have been used for migraine relief.  Cannabis was the official migraine treatment until the 1940s.

Alternate therapies include acupuncture, acupressure, hypnosis, self vision, massage therapy, criotherapy and myofascial release.
