Richard Farrell Discusses Diseases Related to The Scalp Which Can Cause Hair Loss

There is no known cause for alopecia areata and therefore no known cure
There are a variety of hair and scalp diseases; some are very common, while other more severe hair and scalp diseases are fortunately rare. Alopecia Areata is an autoimmune skin disease that causes the body’s immune system to attack the hair follicles, causing baldness in patches. It affects 1.7 percent of the population, including 4.7 million people in the United States. In cases where the disease progresses to the point where all scalp hair is lost, it is called Alopecia Totalis, and where hair loss advances to the entire body it is called Alopecia Universialis. There is no known cause for alopecia areata and therefore no known cure. The disease usually hits before age 20, and does not seem to favor one particular gender or culture. Hair loss with alopecia areata comes in stages, with hair returning and falling out in phases.

Japanese scientists have linked the overproduction of sebum to hair loss
Seborrheic Dermatitis, an advanced form of seborrhea, is a non-contagious skin disease that causes excessive oiliness of the skin, most commonly in the scalp, caused by overproduction of sebum, the substance produced by the body to lubricate the skin where hair follicles are present. Seborrhea is the form of the disease where oiliness only occurs without redness and scaling. The disease commonly occurs in infants, middle-aged people, and the elderly, and is commonly known in infants as cradle cap. The disease has no cure, yet in infants it usually disappears in time. With adults the condition may persist with varying degrees of severity. Flaking, scaling and redness often are symptoms of this disease. It is easily treated with topical solutions found in creams containing corticosteroids and shampoos containing pine tar, selenium sulfide or salicylic acid. Seborrhea and seborrheic dermatitis are both easily treated and controlled, and should be because left untreated they can contribute to hair loss. In fact, a group of Japanese scientists have linked the overproduction of sebum to hair loss. This is because the sebaceous glands in areas of the scalp where hair is thinning or bald are enlarged, and are thought to cause the clogging of pores and several other problems that promote hair loss.

Psoriasis is termed an immune-mediated disorder that affects different areas and functions of the body. It is non-contagious, and one of the areas of the body it can affect is the scalp. It usually appears as patches of raised red skin accompanied by burning and itching. Several contributing factors are thought to contribute to the outbreak of psoriasis, including emotional stress, certain infections, toxemia, the thinning of the intestinal walls and adverse reactions to certain drugs. At least half of people who have psoriasis have scalp psoriasis. Like seborrhea, scalp psoriasis left untreated can cause hair loss. Fortunately, it can also be treated with a variety of topical creams and shampoos containing tar and salicylic acid.

Serious Health Issues Related to Excess Calorie Intake

Anybody who is slightly overweight or clinically obese is always on a hunt for ways that can help them burn their extra pounds of fat. There are effective treatments that can prove helpful, easily available on the market. However, you should not opt for any drug without a proper consultation with a doctor. In the UK, obesity is posing a serious health threat, as about half of the adult population is now overweight and about one quarter of these people are obese. The primary cause of rising obesity levels among people is attributed to their increasingly sedentary modern lifestyle. Also, you can easily get cheap snack foods and inexpensive high fat convenience meals that are generally considered unhealthy.

If the preventive measures are not taken now, the day is not far away when obesity may become the leading cause of preventable deaths and diseases among people worldwide, overthrowing smoking to second slot. According to the WHO, smoking is the leading cause of preventable deaths and diseases among people worldwide.

Problems associated with Obesity

Obesity can cause some serious health problems among people. These health risks may include heart disease, diabetes, high blood pressure, cancer, stroke, gallstones, gall bladder disease, gout, and osteoarthritis. It can also cause breathing problems among some people like sleep apnea, in which a person may stop breathing for sometime during sleep.

If you have a family history of certain chronic diseases like heart disease or diabetes, then you are at an increased risk of developing these problems on becoming overweight or obese. Some medical conditions such as high blood pressure and high cholesterol may also sound warnings signs for serious obesity-related risks.

The most standard measure of obesity is body mass index or BMI. However, your waist circumference can also tell a lot about obesity-related conditions that may develop in future. For example, an apple shaped waist or stomach may be an indicator for health risks like heart disease, diabetes, and cancer.

Tips and suggestions

There is no magic formula for slimming or losing weight overnight. The only reliable way to become slim is to adopt a healthy lifestyle. Even if you already have a weight problem, the best way to lose it is to make positive lifestyle changes. A healthy diet and regular daily exercise are the key weapons for becoming slim in the end. There are some useful prescription treatment drugs available on the market like the Reductil (Sibutramine) and the Xenical (Orlistat).

Three Ways To Help Prevent Stress Related Illnesses

Today we all live in times that we have not seen in half a century, not just the United States but world wide. The economic meltdown has everyone on edge. People are losing their jobs, or they are worried they may lose their job, and we all know what can happen next, people can lose their homes, their cars, and on and on, this can be very stressful. If you are single it can be stressful, but if you have a wife and kids this can be very, very stressful. Stress can be very dangerous to your health, it can cause all kinds of health problems, like high blood pressure, heart problems, eating disorders, alcoholism, and so on. It also can cause a strain in your family. I will show you 3 ways I use to prevent stress related illnesses.

1. Leave your work at work. Today people are working harder for lower pay. Companies are laying off people and making the rest of the employees pick up the slack for the same pay, and that makes people a little upset, and can cause all kinds of problems in the work force. I say just go in, do your job, and punch out. Leave your work at work. If you had a bad day at work, just get it out of your head right there, just think positive things like your kids, or any happy thoughts. Just tell yourself tomorrow will be better, and keep telling yourself that.

2. Get more training. If you do not like your job, you may want to get training for a new job, it’s never too late. I went to school for Electronics in the early 80’s, it was a good thing at the time but now all the manufacturing jobs are over seas, so I was forced to get retrained, just to make it in this new economy, that is if you want a good paying job. Having a new career with more money, and something you enjoy doing, can reduce stress a great deal. It can be very challenging if you have a family, but these days you can get an education online, and do the schooling on your own time.

3. Give yourself some alone time. This is probably the most important. Everyone needs a little time alone to just relax. We live in a world that is go, go, go, all the time, and no one takes the time to just, stop, and take a moment to just relax. People should give themselves at least a half hour, or even an hour a day, to just relax and do what ever makes you happy, like read a book, or go for a walk, or my favorite listen to music. Music is very relaxing, that’s why Dentists play soft music, to help people that stress out about going to the dentist. But remember, do this alone, no kids, no distractions.

In conclusion, stress is a growing problem, and it may get worse before it gets better. These are just of few things that I use to help me prevent stress related illnesses. If you would like more information on how to reduce stress in your life see link bellow.
