The Essentials of Losing Weight After Pregnancy

Though childbirth is a wonderful experience, most women dread the weight they put on during pregnancy. To add to their woes, this weight is not very easy to lose later. If you are thinking that you will shed all those extra pounds immediately after delivering the baby, you are wrong. However, it is possible to slowly and steadily achieve your pre-pregnancy shape, if you are committed to do so.

Some Tips To Lose Weight After Pregnancy:

1. Eat healthy. A breast-feeding mother should take care of her diet. Her diet should be rich in vitamins, proteins, carbohydrates, and nutrients, but low in fats. Include lot of fiber in your diet. Besides giving you the feeling of fullness, it helps to remove fat cells from the body. Avoid foods rich in sugar and salt, as sweets have high amount of calories. Foods that have a high salt content cause fluid retention. Do not give in to the temptation of eating junk and processed foods. They are high in calories and salt, both of which are detrimental for a weight loss program.

2. Eat small meals. This helps in easy digestion and improves metabolism of the body. If hunger strikes in between meals, snack on healthy foods like nuts, fruits, and low-cal sandwiches.

3. Drink plenty of water. Besides keeping your body hydrated, it helps in the proper absorption of nutrients in the body. Moreover, it reduces appetite and thus helps you to lose weight after pregnancy.

4. Women are exhausted after childbirth. Enduring labor, delivering a baby, and handling the responsibilities of a newborn leaves little time and energy. Therefore, do not rush in to your normal lifestyle again. Take your time and let your body recover completely. You should start with mild exercises like walking. It is best to consult your gynecologist before you kick-start your exercise regime. If you are not highly disciplined and often miss your exercises, you should join a group to keep the tempo. This means that instead of exercising alone, you should do them with your family and friends, ones who are fitness freaks or are on a weight loss program.

5. Do not expect miracles to happen. Even, if you lose one to two pounds per week after pregnancy, it is good. The key is to remain determined and continue with your exercise and diet.

6. If following a diet and exercise plan does not seem to help, talk to a weight loss expert. Sometimes, a medical condition like hyperthyroidism contributes to weight gain. It is important to find the right cause of your weight gain so that there can be effective weight loss.
